One thing Chuck Berry fans can still look forward to: a new Berry album, titled Chuck, due for release on June 16. It will be his first album of new material in 38 years. He was 90 years old when he recorded it.
Last year, longtime legends David Bowie and Leonard Cohen both passed away, but not before releasing two great, final statements: Blackstar and You Want It Darker, respectively. Will Chuck be on the same level as those albums?
Probably not, but then again, I’ve never even heard a Chuck Berry song that wasn’t released in the 1950s. Who knows what he might’ve been cooking up over the past 50 years.
Then again, I’ve never heard an album by a 90-year-old man, either.
Also, there will be a song titled “Lady B. Goode.” For those of you who have been waiting 60 years for a sequel to Berry’s landmark 1958 hit “Johnny B. Goode”, your time has finally come.
